Get Rid of Pests Without Harming Yourself and Pets

Happy Pets With Safe Pest Control Methods

No one likes to open the sugar container and have a small colony of ants come crawling out of it. Trying to enjoy a meal outdoors with ants crawling all over you is no fun either. House damage from Arizona termites can cost thousands of dollars in repair bills. A scorpion bite may not kill you, but it really does hurt. Winter is here and now those nasty pests are trying to come inside where it’s warm. Pesticide companies make a huge amount of money from people trying to get rid of all types of bugs and pests. The strong chemicals in many pesticides are not only harmful to your unwanted visitors, but they can be harmful to you, your children, and your pets.

Years of research on the common pesticides used on farms and in the home have led to danger warnings on the product’s container. Do you really want to spray your house or yard with chemicals known to cause health issues to our loving pets? Sure, you won’t have to worry about getting bit by a scorpion, but is it really worth the risk? Luckily, you really don’t have to debate which is the lesser of two evils. There are ways you can keep your home free from nasty pests, without putting your pets in jeopardy.

A simple ant repellant for your kitchen is vinegar. Wipe down all surfaces with a mixture of half apple cider vinegar and half water. You could also sprinkle the edges of the room with ground cinnamon. This will not kill the ants, but will keep them from coming into the area.  If you are looking to kill the little pests, sprinkle some boric acid in crevices and areas your pets can’t get to. Put some sugar mixed with boric acid in a covered container. Poke a few small holes in the cover to let the ants get in but keep your pets out. The ants will get in, carry the boric acid back to their nest and give it to the others. This will effectively get rid of the colony. If you still have trouble of course then contact CareFreeTermite.com an established Arizona pest control company.

Arizona termites and scorpions are more outside pests. A rather simple, yet effective way to keep them from around your home is to use diatomaceous earth. Boric acid would work too, but is dangerous to your pets and children. Diatomaceous earth contains very sharp, tiny, particles that will cut the hard shells of bugs, causing them to dehydrate and die.

Prevention is much easier than trying to get rid of an already established horde of bugs.  Plant some basil and marigolds around the border of your yard to keep many pests away.  Be sure to caulk and seal any tiny openings into the house to keep them from getting inside. Mix dishwashing soap with water and spray the underside of the leaves on plants. Bugs don’t like the taste of soap, and will go to your neighbor’s yard to eat.

Spending some Winter time in the backyard with our pets can be made much more enjoyable if you don’t have to worry about bugs. A few simple tricks can keep your Winter pest free, and your family safe.

Using Organic Methods For Pest Control

Nobody wants pests living in their home or back yard, but most commonly available forms of pest control contain nasty chemicals that can be harmful to yourself, your children and your pets.

However, several organic pest control methods exist. These organic methods don’t pollute the environment, are easy to perform yourself, and, best of all, are not harmful to humans or pets.

Termites:

There are several ways to prevent termite infestations that don’t involve ANY chemicals, including keeping your soil well composted and mulching your plants with wood shavings. But if you’ve already got a termite problem in your house, you might want to consider a more direct approach. Luckily, there are several all-natural ways to kill or drive away an infestation.

–          Nematodes –  These microscopic worms can be sprayed into the infected area using a hose, and will kill the termites without creating an additional problem of their own.

–          Brown rot –  Put this fungus on the termite nest, and the creatures will evacuate on their own. But be careful! One species of termite, the Formosan subterranean termite, actually loves the stuff, so be sure to identify them before trying this method.

–          Natural oils – Like eugenol and citronellal, can repel termites.

–          Boric acid –  This can be extracted from most plants and is abundant in seawater, but you can just buy it from most stores. Apply it to the termite nest. It acts as a poison to the microorganisms in the termites’ stomachs, and will kill off the infestation.

Ants:

Ants can be a common problem, but luckily, solutions can also be easily found inside any kitchen cabinet.

–          Salt –  Sprinkle this on the area around the anthill.

–          Cream of Wheat –  Spread this on or around the anthill (or wherever you have a problem). The ants will eat it, and it will later expand and cause their stomachs to burst. Unpleasant but effective.

–          Baking soda –  Dust trouble spots with this, as it is poisonous to ants.

–          Flour. Spread solid lines of flour across any paths that ants use. They do not like flour, and so will not cross it.

Scorpions:

Even the hardiest of pesticides will repel but not kill most scorpions, so it might be better to get a professional to deal with any problems. Still, there are a few steps you can take to prevent an infestation.

–          Clean up your yard – Make it inhospitable to scorpions by clearing up brush piles, getting rid of wood chips and loose soil, and removing logs and rocks.

–          Fill all outside cracks and crevices – To stop them entering your home.

–          Lavender – Plant it around your home; buy dried plants of use essential lavender oil when cleaning the home. The scent repels scorpions.

–          Citrus – It is also a deterrent. Use citrus oil cleaners in the bathroom to stop scorpions from settling.

–          Use natural predators – Allow non-dangerous spiders to live in your home and garden, or even get a cat.
